There is a huge racial injustice in the medical industry when it comes to the fight of melanoma skin cancer. The survival rate for people with melanoma skin cancer on white skin is 91%, whereas it is only 65% for people with dark skin. This is due to the disease being diagnosed at a later stage on darker skin, since the symptoms are mainly portrayed on white skin in ads and medical books. To help raise awareness on this, I came up with an idea together with fieamelung.dk for the popular basketball manufacturing company, Spalding – a basketball that changes appearance when exposed to sunlight. Based on our own research we defined the problem, developed the idea and built a concept around it. We made a case video to tell the story and pitch the idea.
